If you love Me, you will keep My commandments. — John 14:15 BSB
Love is more than just a feeling; it is a way of living. The proof of love is found in action. In one of his letters, the apostle John writes: “This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down His life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.” 1 John 3:16-18
This principle applies to our profession of love for Christ as well. It’s not enough to sing about it in hymns, say it in prayers, or declare it in our creeds. We must show our love through how we live! A tree is known by the fruit it bears. A rosebush is recognized by the roses it produces. And if we claim to be Christ’s followers, we must show it by doing what He asks us to do.
