Contentment depends on the person, not their circumstances.
One person is content living with only the bare necessities, enduring hardship with a peaceful heart. Another is discontented even in a palace, surrounded by luxury and comfort. The difference lies within the heart.
The content person has inner resources that aren’t shaken by changes in their situation. The discontent person relies entirely on their circumstances for happiness and is therefore affected by every difficulty.
“I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in poverty.” (Philippians 4:12)
