If you see the oppression of the poor and the denial of justice and righteousness in the province, do not be astonished at the matter; for one official is watched by a superior, and others higher still are over them. — Eccl 5:8 BSB
It’s comforting to know that, in a world where so many things go wrong, God is always watching over His people. He will surely bring justice from injustice, and good from wrong. God stands with the oppressed, the weak, and those whom the strong seek to crush.
When we see someone treated unfairly, we naturally feel sympathy, but we may feel powerless to correct the injustice. Our comfort is in knowing that God sees and cares. He will, in His time, vindicate the cause of those who are oppressed. While the wrongs may not be righted in this world, they will be corrected in eternity.
The Queen of France once said to Cardinal Richelieu, “There is one fact you seem to have forgotten: God is a sure paymaster. He may not pay at the end of every week, month, or year—but He always pays in the end.”
One of the strongest reasons for believing in a future life is the fact that justice often cannot be fully realized in this world. But we can be certain that God will make all things right in the end.
