But the dove found no place to rest her foot, and she returned to him in the ark, because the waters were still covering the surface of all the earth. So he reached out his hand and brought her back inside the ark. — Gen 8:9 BSB
One stormy night, a family sat together in a peaceful home by the sea. Rain and sleet lashed against the windows, but inside, all was calm and warm. Suddenly, one family member heard a soft fluttering outside the window. After investigating, they found a small bird, flapping its wings against the glass, trying to escape the storm. Drawn to the light, the bird was desperate for shelter. They opened the window, and the soaked, exhausted bird flew inside to safety. There, it found warmth, light, and refuge from the storm.
Many people around us are like that bird—caught in life’s storms, struggling with temptation, sorrow, or despair. They are weary and beaten down, looking for shelter. The only true refuge is found in the heart of God, under the protection of His love. When we turn to Him, we find everything our soul needs—refuge, warmth, joy, and satisfaction. Like the bird drawn to the light, we too can fly to the safety of God’s care and find rest.
