But those who wait upon the LORD will renew their strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint. — Isa 40:31 BSB
The source of strength in any life must be God. We are truly unconquerable only when we work with Him. If we want to be strong, able to resist sin, to stand firm for truth, and to touch others with healing and uplifting influence, we must abide in Christ. His strength will then fill our hearts and empower our actions.
It’s said that General Gordon, during his time in the Sudan, would place a white handkerchief outside his tent each morning for half an hour. Everyone in the camp understood its meaning and treated it with the utmost respect. No one dared to interrupt, no matter how urgent the situation, until that handkerchief was removed. Even matters of life and death had to wait. Everyone knew that during that time, God and Gordon were communing together. This communion with God was the source of his strength, and so it is with us. When we daily draw near to God and take in the refreshment of His presence, our lives are transformed.
