And I establish My covenant with you: Never again will all life be cut off by the waters of a flood; never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth. — Gen 9:11 BSB

Science now explains so many things that devout people in the past loved to think of as direct acts of God, leading some to wonder if our Father really has anything to do with nature. But what is nature? It is God’s handiwork. The powers that operate so mightily in earth and air—God placed them there. Can these forces be greater than the One who established them? We need never fear that any scientific discovery will reveal a universe without God. We also know that the God who controls all the forces of nature—holding them all in His hands—is our Father!

During a great flood, when homes, barns, and fences were swept away by the current, some men in a skiff saw a baby’s cradle floating in the water. Rowing toward it, they found a baby sleeping peacefully, just as it would in its mother’s arms. In the wildest floods of life, God still cares for His little ones. He is Lord over all the forces of nature. Not a single drop of water, even in the angriest storm, escapes His control! Natural law? Yes—but natural law is simply the leash of divine control, firmly held in the hand of God. No storm ever moves beyond the limits our Father sets!
