When I kept silent, my bones became brittle from my groaning all day long. For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was drained as in the summer heat. Selah — Ps 32:3-4 BSB
Sometimes, silence before God is the best response in times of great trial. There are moments when we should not resist but remain still before Him. But there is also a kind of silence that brings no blessing—the silence that hides unconfessed sin. David’s words tell the painful story of the suffering he experienced when he kept his sin hidden.
The memory of his sin haunted him. It overshadowed every joy and poisoned every sweet thing in his life. Even his body suffered, and his heart was constantly in anguish.
Unconfessed sin is a burden too heavy for anyone to carry. We should never remain silent about our sins. The only right thing to do is to confess immediately and completely cast the sin out of our lives forever.
Sin is like a destructive force from the depths of darkness, and if we don’t expel it, it will take root in our hearts and ruin our lives. Sin is poison, bringing eternal death. If not confessed and repented of, it will spread through the soul. The only safety lies in confession and repentance, driving out every sin that tries to take hold of us.
