He will again have compassion on us; He will vanquish our iniquities. You will cast out all our sins into the depths of the sea. — Mic 7:19 BSB
The second greatest blessing after having sin forgiven is having sin subdued. Wherever God forgives sin, He also subdues it, because the same grace that saves us also sanctifies us. The same grace that casts sin behind God’s back also keeps it from ruling over us.
Scripture clearly says, “Sin shall not have dominion over you,” because we are no longer under the law, which gives sin its power, but under grace, which breaks sin’s dominion. No true believer can be content without both the forgiveness and the subduing of sin. Every child of God desires to see their unbelief, pride, covetousness, and other sins subdued by God’s grace, so that sin no longer has power over them. We long to walk before God with a pure heart, seeking to know and do His will. What a gracious promise it is that the Lord has promised to subdue our iniquities by the same grace that pardons them! As we receive Christ’s blood to cleanse our conscience, we also receive His grace to sanctify our soul and His strength to overcome both inward and outward foes.
