Therefore, just as you have received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him, established in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. — Col 2:6-7 BSB

It is a beautiful sight to behold a strong and noble tree, and the strength of the tree speaks to the richness of the soil in which it is rooted. Only in deep, fertile soil do such trees grow tall and strong. Now consider the "trees of righteousness," the planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified! What a depth and richness there is in the divine soil in which they are planted. Look at the eternal Sonship of Jesus, His glorious deity, and His union with His suffering humanity. What fertile soil that is! It is broad enough to support countless trees and deep enough for them to root themselves securely. It is a soil that never exhausts its richness, for can the infinite Deity ever be depleted?

As we look at our blessed Lord, now seated at the right hand of God, what a perfect and complete Savior He is! He is the source of all spiritual nourishment and strength, and the soul can find no better soil to root itself in than in Him.

Just as a tree spreads its roots deeply and widely into the soil to draw up more nourishment, so does the believing soul root itself deeper into Christ by faith. The more we cling to Him, the more strength we draw from His fullness. As we root ourselves in Christ, we stand firm, and the nourishment we draw from Him sustains us, both now and for eternity. A faith rooted in Christ will never be confounded, a love for Him will never fade, and a hope in Him will never be put to shame.
