Jesus replied, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word. My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. — John 14:23 BSB
There are two crucial truths every Christian should seek to be sure of. First, is he a believer in Christ? Has the Holy Spirit made Christ known to his soul? Has he embraced Jesus with living faith? The second is, does he remain in Christ? He can know this by seeing evidence that Christ remains in him, producing the fruits that flow from this union. If Christ is in him, his heart won’t be hard like stone. He won’t rush into sin or love the world and its temporary pleasures. He won’t be able to love idols or do what ungodly people do without feeling any remorse or conviction.
Jesus in the soul makes His presence known; He is King in the heart. When He enters, He comes as Sovereign, ruling over the soul and making it obedient to His will. “Your people will be willing in the day of your power” (Psalm 110:3). “O Lord our God, other lords have ruled over us, but we worship You alone” (Isaiah 26:13).
