Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe in Me as well. — John 14:1 BSB

To believe in God means to believe in Him as He has revealed Himself through His Son, showing the fullness of His love, the richness of His grace, and the depth of His mercy. We must not see God solely through the lens of the terror of a holy law, but in the mercy and truth of the glorious gospel of His Son. This is how we should approach and trust in Him as the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, and our Father in Him. How few understand and truly experience this! Many in God’s family struggle with this very point—believing in God in such a way that it brings peace and pardon to their conscience. Believing in God to the extent that they experience acceptance with Him, calling Him Abba, Father, with the Spirit bearing witness that they are His children. Believing in God so that they find Him to be a present help in trouble, receiving answers to prayer, walking in the light of His presence, and experiencing His love poured out in their hearts. This is what it means to truly believe in God through Jesus Christ.

How different this is from simply believing things about God—like knowing from nature that He is the Creator of all things, or seeing His providential care in our lives. These things may show that God watches over us regarding earthly matters, but believing in God through Jesus is something far greater.
