Now faith is the assurance of what we hope for and the certainty of what we do not see. — Heb 11:1 BSB
Where there is faith, there is desire; and as faith embraces heavenly realities, desire reaches for what faith holds. As the soul is moved by divine power, and faith lays hold of the promises, desire is stirred for their fulfillment.
True religion is not a burdensome, sorrowful, or tiresome duty as some imagine. It certainly has its trials, temptations, afflictions, and deep sorrows. But it also has sweetness, peace, delights, and joy. It is this sweetness, this joy in the things of God, that lifts our heads and gives us strength to keep going through the wilderness.
It’s not all bondage, mental distress, or soul-piercing sorrow for the heirs of promise. There are sips of sweetness, tastes of joy, brief moments of enjoyment that, even if fleeting, are precious when they come and sweet in memory after they pass. The Lord provides what strengthens, comforts, and delights us, allowing us to see His beauty and glory. We would never trade what we’ve tasted of Him for a thousand worlds.
