In You our fathers trusted; they trusted and You delivered them. They cried out to You and were set free; they trusted in You and were not disappointed. — Ps 22:4-5 BSB
Oh, what a blessed thing it is to have a secret trust in Jesus within your heart—when so many people are looking to themselves or to others, resting their eternal salvation on works that are no more than the playthings of a child, the true believer is resting upon the Lord of life and glory. On him, the believer hangs their hope, and in him, they put their trust. These are the ones the Lord will honor, and he will never disappoint their hope or allow their trust to be put to shame. Has anyone ever trusted in the Lord and been let down? If you are able to trust him, to believe in his faithful word, to cast aside all reliance on anything in the flesh, and place the full weight of your soul upon a faithful, covenant-keeping God—he will never leave you, fail you, or forsake you.
You may find it hard to trust him at all times, or even at any time. You may desire something tangible—something you can see or hear, something beyond just faith. But don’t look for that. We walk by faith, not by sight. It must be a simple, naked trust in an invisible God. “Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we will remember the name of the Lord our God.” If you are able to trust in him in this way, he will sooner or later make it clear to your own heart that you are one of the righteous. Light will shine upon your path, glory will dawn in your soul, and you will receive the end of your faith—the salvation of your soul.
