I, the LORD, am its keeper; I water it continually. I guard it night and day so no one can disturb it; — Isa 27:3 BSB
The Lord Jesus Christ, who lives at God’s right hand, must continually send down supplies of His grace to keep your soul alive in Him. Without these continual supplies, you cannot pray, read, hear the Word, or meditate with any real feeling or benefit. You cannot love the Lord or follow His ways; you cannot submit to His righteous dealings or learn from the discipline He sends. You may approach His throne, but your heart will be cold, clouded, and unfeeling. Your spirit will sink under the weight of the trials and difficulties in your path, and you will not be able to do anything that satisfies you or that you think might satisfy God.
Through these painful but necessary lessons, you will come to know that you need Christ’s life just as much as His death, His resurrection just as much as His crucifixion. You need Christ as an ever-living, ever-gracious, ever-glorious Mediator, sending down His love and power into your soul just as much as you needed Him to die on the cross for your redemption.
