Is not my house right with God? For He has established with me an everlasting covenant, ordered and secured in every part. Will He not bring about my full salvation and my every desire? — 2 Sam 23:5 BSB
O, the blessedness of having a manifest interest in the blood of the covenant, and thus having a testimony that God has made a covenant with His dear Son on our behalf; that our names are written in the book of life; and that Christ is our Mediator at the right hand of the Father! What are all earthly blessings compared to this? What is health, strength, riches, or all the goods of this life compared to an interest in the everlasting covenant, and the love, blood, and righteousness of the Lord Jesus? What is all the world’s allure compared to the precious blood of a dying Savior?
You will find this to be true when you lie on a bed of suffering and pain, when the cold sweat of death clings to your brow, and the last enemy grasps you by the throat. What will all your anxious striving for worldly success be worth then? What will your successes and achievements do for you in that hour? They will only haunt your conscience as reminders of your pursuit of shadows over the substance of Christ. But in that solemn moment, to have the testimony of pardon and peace from God will make your bed smooth, calm your fears, and carry you safely through the valley of the shadow of death.
