O Lord, my every desire is before You; my groaning is not hidden from You. — Ps 38:9 BSB
Many of the Lord’s people can’t clearly see their names written in the book of life. Many doubts and fears stir in their hearts about whether the Lord has truly begun a work of grace in them and whether they are truly part of His family. But this is something they must know: have they ever, in moments of humility, laid at the foot of the throne of mercy and appealed to the all-seeing God, saying, “All my desires are before You”? Have they ever fallen before Him in humility and brokenness, with living desires flowing from their hearts into the ears of the Lord of hosts?
If you can honestly say that, it is a mark of spiritual life. If that’s been the feeling of your heart at various times, know that it’s the same feeling that David experienced. And God, seeing fit, had it written by the Spirit’s hand and recorded for the encouragement and comfort of souls in similar circumstances.
