that all of them may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I am in You. May they also be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me. — John 17:21 BSB

The Apostle says, "He who is joined to the Lord is one spirit" (1 Cor. 6:17). If we are united to the Lord, if we share a union with Him, it's the closest union possible. A man and his wife are one flesh, but Jesus and the believer are one spirit. When we possess this union, we understand what He says, we have the mind of Christ, we love what He loves, and we hate what He hates. Out of this spiritual union flows communion with Him and the entire divine work upon our hearts, where the two spirits—His and ours—become one.

The Spirit of Christ in His glorious Person and the Spirit of Christ in a believer’s heart meet together, like two drops of rain running down a window or two drops of oil merging into one. They kiss each other, and the two are no longer separate but one. If you've ever been blessed with a manifestation of Christ, your spirit has melted into His. In that moment, you felt such sweet union and communion with Him that you saw through His eyes, heard with His ears, felt with His heart, and spoke with His tongue.
