Spring In The Heart
The wilderness and the land will be glad; the desert will rejoice and blossom like a rose. — Isa 35:1 BSB
There are three things that bring Springtide to the soul.
The sense of God’s Presence. Even when the woods are bare, the frost clings to the earth, and the wind gathers the dead leaves, we know God is near. But we feel Him even closer when every hedgerow is clothed in flowers, every bush burns with fire, every tree claps its leafy hands, and the air is filled with birdsong.
The optimism of an illimitable Hope. Spring is the minstrel of hope, singing of the beautiful summer that is yet to come. Life bursts through every channel, showing itself stronger than death, as Spring triumphs over Winter, just as good will triumph over evil.
The exuberance of Love. Spring is the season of love. All creation is drawn together by a natural affinity, and love reigns in the forest and the field.
These three elements filled the hearts of the returning exiles and made the world seem young and fair again. The heart reflects its surroundings through its own lens. When life is filled with joy, the world echoes that happiness. But when joy has fled, even the most beautiful scenes can seem empty.
For us, the lesson is clear. Cherish the sense of God’s presence, cultivate an endless hope, and be conscious of the love flowing toward you and from you. Reflect on God’s lovingkindness and tender mercy, which have followed you all the days of your life. When your heart is full of God, the wilderness will become a place of gladness. Life is not entirely shaped by circumstances. There are those with everything in their favor who still feel cold inside. Yet others, despite adverse circumstances, find flowers and songs everywhere because they have Spring in their hearts.
The thirsty land shall become springs of water. You know what it means to thirst—for love, for encouragement, for success. That thirsty land may be your heart. But when God fills your heart, it becomes a wellspring of joy, and the desolate places bloom with life.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, bring us back from our captivity. Fill our hearts with Your presence, so they may be transformed and renewed, filled with the spirit of Heaven. Amen.
