Spiritual Food

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for instruction, for conviction, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete, fully equipped for every good work. — 2 Tim 3:16-17 BSB

I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And this bread, which I will give for the life of the world, is My flesh. — John 6:51 BSB

It is a common advertising strategy to associate a product with the image of a person in perfect health to attract customers. Likewise, spiritual health and strength are produced when the soul feeds on the Word of God.

From a young age, Timothy was taught the Holy Scriptures. When Paul first met him, Timothy already had a deep knowledge of the Old Testament, which made him receptive to the Gospel message. Perhaps the instability of some young people today is because Christian mothers and grandmothers are not doing for their children what Eunice and Lois did for Timothy.

We do not need to fully understand the concept of inspiration, nor be well-versed in theology, to recognize it. Inspiration is something we perceive spiritually, just as we taste sweetness or saltiness. The Bible is the Word of God, and it is profitable for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16).

We should read the Bible daily, using references and exploring parallel passages. It is good to turn what we read into prayer. We must go beyond the surface, asking the Spirit of God to reveal a message directly for us. Just as some food lacks the nutrients needed for life, so too, many things fail to nourish our souls. But Christ is all we need, and He satisfies every part of our being. He is the Living Bread, and we must feed on Him to have eternal life. The Bible points us to Christ, the true spiritual food. “He who comes to Me will never hunger; and he who believes in Me will never thirst.”

Prayer

O Lord, open my eyes, that I may see wonderful things in Your law. Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Amen.
