The Power Of Small Things

“Because you have so little faith,” He answered. “For truly I tell you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” — Matt 17:20 BSB

The mustard seed is the smallest of seeds, but Jesus says it symbolizes the Kingdom of God and the humble beginnings of the Christian era. The number and status of the disciples were insignificant, just as the first seeds of truth sown in a human heart often seem small and unnoticed—a sentence, a scripture, or a passing remark may result in a great harvest (Mark 4:30-32).

What gives this tiny seed such immense growth potential? It is its ability to receive the powerful forces in the soil, such as sunlight, moisture, and air. As long as it keeps an opening to receive these elements, its growth knows no bounds. Likewise, your life may seem small and ineffective, but if you open your heart to God by faith, He will pour in His strength and fullness, transforming you into a tree of grace and beauty.

Let us not despise small beginnings. Faith may be as small as a mustard seed, but it will grow as you use it. Your efforts to do good may seem insignificant, but they could lead to great things. Many orphanages, schools, and charitable works began with tiny efforts—a single child helped for Christ’s sake led to thousands receiving hope. Do not be discouraged. Like Gideon, you may feel like a small barley cake, but with faith, you can overturn the enemy’s tents. Like the boy with five loaves and two fish, your small offering can feed a multitude when placed in Jesus’ hands. A single stone can bring down Goliath; an arrow can pierce the strongest armor. Trust in God’s faithfulness and have faith!

Prayer

Lord, increase our faith. Give us child-like trust to receive what You offer, and may we sense Your presence and power through the Holy Spirit from this moment forward. Amen.
