The Sacrifice Of Praise
Serve the LORD with gladness; come into His presence with joyful songs. — Ps 100:2 BSB
Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise, the fruit of lips that confess His name. — Heb 13:15 BSB
Psalm 100 is rightly titled “A Psalm of Thanksgiving.” The psalmist calls for a “joyful noise,” an outward expression of worship. Don’t be content with a grateful heart—express it! It is good to give God “the fruit of our lips.” Just as a bird’s song can awaken an entire woodland chorus, so a heart full of loving adoration can inspire joy in others. Too often, Christians hinder the spread of the gospel with their gloom and discouragement. God’s service is perfect freedom, and if we delight ourselves in Him, we should serve Him with gladness!
It is also important to maintain the habit of attending church regularly. Gathering for worship gives us the opportunity to “enter His gates with thanksgiving, and His courts with praise.” Let us prepare our hearts through meditation and prayer, asking that we may be worthy to stand in His presence and offer our praise, mixed with the sweet fragrance of Christ’s name (Revelation 8:3-4).
“The Lord is good!” Though life is filled with mysteries, pain, and sorrow, we must dare to believe in God’s goodness despite it all. Along with His goodness, we can rely on His mercy and truth. No matter what happens, “His truth endures to all generations.” God’s truth is like a mighty rock, unaffected by the waves of sin. And His mercy? It is everlasting! We need so much patience, forbearance, and grace. If God’s mercy were limited, we would have no hope, but it extends to all generations, lasting until time itself ceases.
Prayer
Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits. Amen.
