Awake, O my sluggish heart! How can you sleep when Jesus calls?
— Thomas Watson
Spurgeon’s Daily Help
None of us are as awake as we should be. With a world in desperate need all around us, it’s cruel to be asleep. Let’s leave our comfort behind and go out with burning passion to meet the coming Bridegroom! My heart is waking up—this is a good sign. Life isn’t extinguished, even if it’s been smothered.
When our renewed hearts fight against our natural laziness, we should thank God’s grace for keeping some life within us. Jesus will listen to our hearts, help our hearts, and visit our hearts; for the voice of our waking heart is really the voice of our Beloved saying, "Open to me." Passionate zeal will surely open the door.

When it comes to the revelation that our heavenly Father has so kindly given us, how little we’ve actually seen in its full glory! Our prejudices, foolishness, sins, doubts, and vanity have created a fog through which the light of Heaven can barely shine.
There is plenty of light if the dense fog would only let it through; but because we lack the heavenly wind to blow away the mist, we walk in twilight, seeing only glimpses of truth.
