Spurgeon’s Daily Help
Sometimes Saul was among the prophets, easily turned into a prophet, and then later among the witches; sometimes in one place, then in another, but insincere in everything. How many such people are in every church! They’re easily influenced, with affectionate dispositions and perhaps a tender conscience,
but their conscience is so sensitive that it heals as soon as it’s touched. You can push them whichever way you want—they’re so pliable that you can always get what you want from them. But they’re not firm in character and soon return to what they were before.

Certain foods taste good while eating but leave a bad aftertaste, while some bitter things leave a pleasant flavor. Worldly pleasures are followed by regret, but holy duties bring lasting contentment. The sinner never leaves his amusements with as much
joy as we bring away from the throne of grace. After a sorrowful prayer, Hannah’s spirit was no longer sad. Though repentance is bitter, it brings sweet peace, and even the most difficult duties bring the greatest joy.

Spurgeon’s Quote
Repentance makes us see the evil of sin, not merely as a theory, but experimentally, as a burnt child dreads fire.
