Today’s Quote

God brings us to the end of ourselves so that we may see the beginning of His grace.

— J.C. Ryle

Spurgeon’s Daily Help

There are times in our spiritual journey when human advice, sympathy, or religious rituals fail to bring us comfort or help. Why does our gracious God allow this? Perhaps it’s because we’ve been living too independently of Him, and so He removes everything we’ve been relying on to drive us back to Himself.

It’s a blessing to live close to the source of life. When we have nothing of our own to trust in and rely solely on the merits of Jesus, we are in the best place. Beloved, when we find ourselves spiritually thirsty, we’ll eagerly turn to the fountain of life.

Just like starving sailors on a fragile raft, who use every last bit of strength to catch a glimpse of a passing ship that might bring rescue, so does an awakened sinner eagerly receive the message of coming grace. He might have scoffed at the terms of

mercy before, but now, like a city under siege, he is ready to accept peace at any cost. Is that you? If so, know that grace is close at hand.
