Fearing that we would run aground on the rocks, they dropped four anchors from the stern and prayed for daybreak. — Acts 27:29 BSB

It’s wise to always carry anchors with us, because we never know when our safety will depend on dropping one.

It might be in a business decision, a friendship, or a situation where we feel ourselves drifting away from Christ. It could be a moment of anger—if we don’t stop it, it could lead to a rash act we’ll regret forever.

In times of uncertainty, we should drop anchor and wait for clarity.

Even though God guides us, we must also do our part. Paul had been told no lives would be lost, but he still warned that if the sailors deserted, the ship couldn’t be saved. To survive, they had to throw out the cargo and tackle.

Sometimes the only way to save our lives is by letting go of our possessions.

One of the most beautiful scenes in the Bible is Paul looking up to heaven, giving thanks to God, and breaking bread on that stormy ship.
