Young men, in the same way, submit yourselves to your elders. And all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” — 1 Pet 5:5 BSB
There may be a special need for this counsel today. Nothing is more beautiful than seeing young people showing respect and care for the elderly. It may take extra time and effort to slow down and walk with an elderly person, but the time is well spent.
Max O’Rell once remarked that a daughter’s care and attention to her father is one of the most beautiful things one can see, though perhaps rare. Mothers often receive more attention from their children, which is deserved, but fathers, too, long for love and kindness from their children. It’s worth the effort for a son or daughter to offer their father some care and attention now and then.
Humility is the key to this chapter. The young are instructed to submit to the older generation.
We are all called to clothe ourselves with humility and to humble ourselves under God’s mighty hand.
