Now people were even bringing their babies to Jesus for Him to place His hands on them. And when the disciples saw this, they rebuked those who brought them. — Luke 18:15 BSB
Does Christ care for babies? Some might say no, thinking that infants are too small for Him to be interested in. The disciples seemed to think this when they tried to keep mothers from bringing their children to Jesus for a blessing. But Jesus rebuked His disciples and welcomed the children.
The story reminds me of Francis Xavier, who once said he needed sleep or he would die from exhaustion. He told his servant not to wake him unless absolutely necessary. But after closing the tent door, he called the servant back and said, “If a little child comes, wake me.” This reflects Jesus’ heart—He was never too busy or too tired to welcome a child. He still loves little children today, and all who come to Him with a childlike spirit.
