March 30

About the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” which means, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” — Matt 27:46 BSB

The most astounding event ever witnessed on earth was the death of Jesus Christ.

It’s a comfort to other sufferers, overwhelmed by the mystery of their pain, to know that even Jesus, for a time, couldn’t feel His Father’s presence in the darkness. Yet even in that moment of forsakenness, His faith didn’t waver.

“He said ‘Forsaken.’ Then doubt is not sin.
But it’s to stand in the night, and within
Feel, for a time, as if day could not win.
“His cure was this – to hold fast through the night,
Though bowed and blind with the dust of the fight,
To trust God as ‘My God,’ unseen, but right.”

Jesus was buried in a rich man’s tomb in a garden, where the spring flowers bloomed all around Him.
