So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was fervently praying to God for him. — Acts 12:5 BSB

Some of Christ's followers are called to witness for Him through their death. James' ministry was short, and it may seem strange to us that he wasn't spared to continue sharing the gospel. But he completed the work he was given.

Others, like Peter, are called to serve Christ through a long life. Peter was freed from Herod's prison so he could continue preaching and being a blessing to many. No prison can hold a man when Christ wants him free. Prayer was what opened Peter's prison.

The Christians gathered and prayed for Peter's release, and their prayer was answered while they were still praying. Peter knocked at the door, but his friends couldn't believe it was really him, even though they had been praying all night for his release.
