You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness. — Rom 6:18 BSB
We all have to serve someone. If we’re not serving one master, we’re serving another. Becoming a Christian is about switching masters—it’s leaving behind the rule of sin and accepting the leadership of Christ.
Paul explains it this way: “Being made free from sin, you became servants of righteousness.” Paul himself was an example of this. On his way to Damascus, full of hatred towards Christians, he suddenly encountered a glorious, divine presence. “Who are you?” he asked. “I am Jesus, the one you’re persecuting,” was the reply. In that instant, Paul realized the terrible mistake he had been making and immediately submitted his life to the one he had been opposing. He had a new Master, and his entire life was now devoted to serving Him.
Too many people, when they come to Christ, don’t bring their whole life with them. But Paul did, and that’s what everyone who follows Christ should do. We should be as passionate in our Christian service as we once were in serving the world.
