Have I now become your enemy by telling you the truth? — Gal 4:16 BSB
Paul didn’t have an easy time with the Galatian Christians. They were inconsistent and hard to deal with. One day they would have done anything for him, the next they were angry at him.
“You welcomed me as if I were an angel… I can testify that if you could have, you would have torn out your eyes and given them to me.” But then he adds, “Have I now become your enemy by telling you the truth?” They couldn’t handle correction.
Yet Paul remained faithful in his care for them, always seeking to do them good.
This is how we must treat others, too. We should love them not only when they love us, but also when they’re upset with us for being honest. That’s how Christ loves and teaches us—He is always patient and never stops helping us.
