Morning

But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is perfected in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly in my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest on me. — 2 Cor 12:9 BSB

If none of God’s saints ever experienced trouble, we wouldn’t know the full sweetness of divine grace. When we meet the wanderer with nowhere to lay his head, yet hear him say, “Still, I trust in the Lord,” or see the pauper, living on bread and water, still rejoicing in Jesus, or the grieving widow, her heart broken by loss, yet still holding on to her faith in Christ—oh, how these moments magnify the gospel’s power.

God’s grace shines most brightly in the trials of His people. Believers endure hardship, knowing that all things work together for their good, trusting that from what seems evil, real blessing will come. They believe God will either deliver them from their trials or give them strength to bear them, for as long as He chooses. This endurance demonstrates the mighty power of God’s grace.

It’s like a lighthouse at sea on a calm night—you can’t tell if it’s strong and secure until the storm rages. So too with the work of the Spirit in our hearts: if it never faced hardship, we wouldn’t know how true and firm it is. If the winds never blew, we wouldn’t know how steadfast our foundation is.

The greatest displays of God’s handiwork are those people who stand firm in the midst of trials, confident and unshaken, declaring victory in the face of chaos. Anyone who wants to glorify God must set their heart on facing many trials. No one can shine brightly for the Lord unless they have fought many battles. So if your path is full of trials, rejoice! You will be better equipped to show off the sufficiency of God’s grace. And as for Him failing you? Never! The God who has carried you this far will be faithful to the end!

Evening

They feast on the abundance of Your house, and You give them drink from Your river of delights. — Ps 36:8 BSB

The Queen of Sheba was overwhelmed by the abundance of Solomon’s table. She marveled at the lavish provision of a single day and was equally amazed at the large company of servants dining at the king’s table. But what is that compared to the feast prepared by the God of grace? Thousands of His people come daily, hungry and thirsty, bringing their great appetites to His banquet, and not one leaves unsatisfied. There is enough for each, enough for all, enough forever!

Though the number of guests at the Lord’s table is beyond counting, each one receives their portion. Think of how much grace one believer needs—so much that only the Infinite can supply them for even one day! And yet, the Lord doesn’t feed just one but many saints, not just for one day but for years, generation after generation!

Notice how the text describes it: not only are the guests satisfied, but they “feast.” And it’s not just an ordinary meal—it’s a feast of the “abundance of Your house,” the special abundance from God’s own storehouse! And this feast is guaranteed by a faithful promise to all those who find refuge under the shadow of Jehovah’s wings.

At one time, I thought I would be satisfied with the crumbs from God’s table, like the woman who said, “Even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from the master’s table.” But no child of God is ever fed with scraps! Like Mephibosheth, we all sit at the King’s table. In matters of grace, each of us receives the best portion—far more than we could ever expect! And though our needs are great, we are continually amazed at the overwhelming abundance of grace that God provides for us to enjoy.
