I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength. — Phil 4:13 BSB
A dear sister once said, “I have so much work to do that I don’t have time to wait on the Lord for the strength to do it.” That’s like making bricks without straw! Even if the work is in the name of the Lord, it’s still the devil’s bondage if we try to do it without God’s help. God never sends His servants out at their own expense. He is able to make all grace abound to us so that, having all we need, we can abound in every good work.
There’s a story of a chieftain fleeing from his enemies. Nearly overtaken, he stopped in the middle of his escape to have a shoe put on his horse so he could ride faster. This is a lesson for us in our Christian work.
The old Latin motto festina lente—"make haste slowly"—is wise advice. The more work we have to do, the more often we should pause, lean on God, and wait for His heavenly aid. One hour baptized in the love of the Holy Spirit is worth more than ten hours of struggling against the wind and tide without it.
