So they set out on a three-day journey from the mountain of the LORD, with the ark of the covenant of the LORD traveling ahead of them for those three days to seek a resting place for them. — Num 10:33 BSB
God does give us impressions, but He does not expect us to act solely on them. If the impression is from God, He will provide enough evidence to confirm it beyond any doubt.
In the story of Jeremiah, we read about the impression he received regarding the purchase of the field at Anathoth. But Jeremiah didn’t act on this impression until the next day when his cousin came to him and proposed the purchase, providing external confirmation. Then Jeremiah said, “I knew this was the word of the Lord.”
Jeremiah waited until God supported the impression with providence, and then he acted in the presence of undeniable facts, which could also serve as evidence to others.
God wants us to act according to His will, listening to the personal voice of the Shepherd. Like Paul and his companions at Troas, we should listen to all the voices that speak and gather from all circumstances the full mind of the Lord.
