Greet Prisca and Aquila, my fellow workers in Christ Jesus, — Rom 16:3 BSB
The Church of Christ is full of captains, but what it truly needs are more privates. Many rivers flow into the sea, but more flow into other rivers. We cannot all be pioneers, but we can all be helpers. No one is fit to lead until they have learned to follow.
A spirit of self-importance is fatal to true service for Christ. The greatest hindrance to spiritual power is spiritual self-consciousness. Joshua had to die before Jericho could fall.
God often tests His servants by placing them in subordinate roles before raising them up. Joseph had to serve in the kitchen and suffer in prison before he could rise to the throne. But once Joseph was ready for the throne, it was ready for him. God has more places than candidates. Don’t be afraid to take the lowest place—if you deserve to rise, God will lift you up in His time. Lord, use me so that You may be glorified, and I may be hidden from myself and others.
