For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace. — Rom 6:14 BSB
The secret of Moses’ failure was this: “The law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did.” This is why his life’s work fell short of full realization. Moses saw the Promised Land, but he didn’t enter it. As the founder of the law, he had to bear its consequences, and his life demonstrated the law’s inability to lead anyone into the Promised Land. The fact that Moses lost his inheritance over a seemingly small fault only emphasizes the law’s stern sentence: “Cursed is everyone who does not continue in all things written in the Book of the Law.”
Yet, by God’s grace, what the law couldn’t do for Moses, the Gospel accomplished. The same Moses who couldn’t cross the Jordan under the old covenant is seen on the Mount of Transfiguration with Jesus, sharing in His glory and discussing the very death that fulfilled his destiny.
This is the grace we have inherited through Jesus Christ.
