But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you. — Matt 6:33 BSB
For anyone seeking something from the Lord, this is a good watchword: that very thing, or the desire for it, may unconsciously separate you from the Lord or from having a single focus on Him. The desire may be legitimate, but we may seek it in a distrusting or selfish spirit. Let’s commit it to Him, not stop believing for it, but keep our hearts fixed on His will and glory. We should claim His promised blessings, not for themselves or for us, but for Him. Then it will be true, “Delight yourself in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart.” All other things will be added, but they must be added, never come first.
When we claim them for Him and not for ourselves, we can believe for them without doubt. Only when we belong to Christ can all things be ours.
Lord, help me today to seek You first and desire to please You more than to possess any other blessing.
