“How can I help you?” asked Elisha. “Tell me, what do you have in the house?” She answered, “Your servant has nothing in the house but a jar of oil.” — 2 Kgs 4:2 BSB
The prophet asked her, "What do you have in the house?" She answered, "Nothing but a jar of oil." Yet that small jar of oil was sufficient to meet all her needs—if only she had known how to use it.
That jar of oil represents the Holy Spirit, and the lesson is that the Holy Spirit is sufficient to meet all our needs—if only we know how to rely on Him.
All she needed was enough empty vessels to contain the oil, and as long as she poured, the oil continued to flow, filling them all.
Similarly, the Holy Spirit is only limited by our capacity to receive Him. When God wants to give us more of Himself, He often creates new needs and trials in our lives, making room for a greater filling of His Spirit. Each new challenge is an opportunity for us to receive more of His grace and presence.
Lord, help me to see You in all my trials and to use them as vessels to hold more of Your grace.
