And he said, “Listen, all you people of Judah and Jerusalem! Listen, King Jehoshaphat! This is what the LORD says: ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army, for the battle does not belong to you, but to God. — 2 Chr 20:15 BSB
The key is to recognize that the battle belongs to God. The battle is not yours but God’s. You will not need to fight in this battle. As long as we see the dangers and responsibilities as ours, we will be distracted by fear. But when we realize that God is responsible for us—His property and representatives—we will experience a profound sense of relief and security.
If I send my servant on a journey, I am responsible for his expenses and protection. Similarly, if God sends us anywhere, He is responsible for us. If we truly belong to God and place our lives, our families, and everything we have in His hands, we can trust that He will care for us.
If our body belongs to Him, it is in His interest to keep us well, just as a shepherd wants his sheep to be healthy and well-cared for, which reflects well on him.
Thanks be to God, who always causes us to triumph.
Stand up, stand up for Jesus,
Stand in His strength alone;
The arm of flesh will fail you,
You dare not trust your own.
