The Divine Light in Darkness
For You, O LORD, light my lamp; my God lights up my darkness. — Ps 18:28 BSB
Perhaps my soul is sitting in darkness right now; if this is a spiritual darkness, no human power can bring me light. But praise God! He can shine His light into my darkness and immediately light my candle. Even if I am surrounded by a darkness that can be felt, God can break through it and bring brightness all around me.
The great blessing is that if God lights the candle, no one can blow it out. It won’t go out from lack of oil, nor will it burn out with the passage of time. The lights God kindled long ago are still shining today. The Lord’s lamps may need trimming, but He never puts them out.
So, like the nightingale, let me sing in the dark. Expectation will give me a song, and hope will set the tune. Soon I will rejoice with a candle lit by God Himself. Right now, I feel dull and gloomy. Maybe it’s the weather, physical weakness, or a sudden trouble that has brought this darkness. Whatever it is, only God can bring the light. My eyes are fixed on Him alone. Soon, the Lord will light my way, and further on, I will reach a place where no candle or even sunlight is needed. Hallelujah!
