The Magnitude of Grace

But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is perfected in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly in my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest on me. — 2 Cor 12:9 BSB

Our weakness should be cherished, for it makes room for God’s strength. We might never understand the power of grace if we didn’t first feel the frailty of our own nature. Praise the Lord for the thorn in the flesh and the messenger of Satan, for they drive us to depend on God’s strength.

This is a precious word straight from the lips of Jesus. It has brought joy to my heart: God’s grace is sufficient for me! Of course it is. Isn’t the sky enough for the bird and the ocean enough for the fish? The All-Sufficient God is more than enough for my greatest need. He who sustains the heavens and the earth can certainly meet the needs of one poor soul like me.

Let us, then, rest in God and His grace. If He does not remove our troubles, He will give us the strength to endure them. His strength will flow into us until we, though weak, can overcome the mountains before us. It is better to have God’s strength than our own. Even if we were a thousand times stronger than we are, it wouldn’t be enough in the face of life’s challenges. And even if we were weaker than we are, we could still do all things through Christ who strengthens us.
