Delight and Desires
Delight yourself in the LORD, and He will give you the desires of your heart. — Ps 37:4 BSB
Delighting in God has a transformative power that lifts a person above the base desires of our fallen nature. Delight in the Lord is not only a joy in itself, but it sweetens the entire soul, reshaping our desires until they align with the will of God. Isn’t it amazing that such delight can mold our longings to become like God’s own?
Our natural tendency is to desire something and then work to make it happen. But God’s way is different: He calls us to seek Him first, and then all other things will be added to us. If we fill our hearts with God until they overflow with delight, He will ensure we lack no good thing. Instead of seeking joy outside of God, let us stay close to Him and drink deeply from His presence. He can do more for us than any earthly friend. It is far better to be content with God alone than to fret and long for the fleeting pleasures of this world. Though we may experience disappointments, if they draw us closer to God, they are worth treasuring, for they will ultimately lead to the fulfillment of all our righteous desires.
