He Routs Our Enemy

The LORD has taken away your punishment; He has turned back your enemy. Israel’s King, the LORD, is among you; no longer will you fear any harm. — Zeph 3:15 BSB

What a casting out that was! Satan has lost his throne over us, just as he was cast out of heaven. Jesus has destroyed his reign over us. Satan may harass us, but he no longer has any claim over us. We are free—truly free—because the Son has made us so.

Though Satan is still an accuser, Jesus has silenced him. Our Advocate stands on our behalf, defending us from every accusation. The Lord rebukes the enemy and fights our battles, so no harm comes from Satan’s revilings.

As a tempter, Satan still attacks and tries to influence our minds. But he no longer has power over us. Though he may slither like a serpent, he no longer rules like a king. He may hurl wicked thoughts our way, but the Lord commands him to flee. How sweet it is when the enemy is told to be silent and slinks away like a defeated foe! Lord, do this for anyone troubled by the enemy today. Cast him out, and be glorified in our lives. You have cast him down—now, cast him out completely!
