A Wonderful Guarantee

Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will surely help you; I will uphold you with My right hand of righteousness. — Isa 41:10 BSB

When we’re called to serve or to suffer, we often assess our strength and find it lacking—less than we thought and certainly less than we need. But let’s not let our hearts sink within us, for we have this powerful promise to rely on, guaranteeing us all that we could ever need. God has infinite strength, and He can share that strength with us. His promise is that He will do just that. He will nourish our souls and strengthen our hearts, giving us the power we need. There’s no limit to the strength God can impart to a person. When divine strength comes, our human weakness no longer holds us back.

Don’t we recall times of hard work and trial when we received such unexpected strength that we marveled at ourselves? In the face of danger, we were calm; in the midst of grief, we found peace; when slandered, we remained composed; and during sickness, we were patient. The truth is, God gives us unexpected strength when we face extraordinary challenges. We rise above our weak selves. The timid become brave, the foolish gain wisdom, and the silent receive just the right words to speak in the moment they need them. My own weakness makes me hesitate, but God’s promise makes me bold. Lord, strengthen me “according to Your word.”
