God's Enemies Shall Bow
And the Egyptians will know that I am the LORD, when I stretch out My hand against Egypt and bring the Israelites out from among them. — Exod 7:5 BSB
The ungodly world is difficult to teach. Egypt did not know Jehovah and boldly set up its idols, even daring to ask, “Who is the Lord?” But the Lord intends to break down proud hearts, whether they like it or not. When His judgments thunder over them, darken their skies, destroy their harvests, and take their sons, they begin to understand something of Jehovah’s power. There will be events on this earth that will bring even the most stubborn skeptics to their knees. Let us not be disheartened by their blasphemies, for the Lord can defend His own name and will do so in a very effective way.
The salvation of His own people was another powerful way of making Egypt realize that the God of Israel was Jehovah, the living and true God. Not one Israelite died from any of the ten plagues. None of the chosen people were drowned in the Red Sea. In the same way, the salvation of the elect and the ultimate glorification of all true believers will make even the most obstinate enemies of God acknowledge that Jehovah is indeed God.
Oh, that His convincing power would go forth through His Holy Spirit in the preaching of the gospel until all nations bow at the name of Jesus and call Him Lord!
