Made Rich by Faith

For the needy will not always be forgotten; nor the hope of the oppressed forever dashed. — Ps 9:18 BSB

Poverty is a difficult burden, but those who trust in the Lord are made rich by faith. They know that God has not forgotten them, and even if it seems like they’re overlooked in the distribution of earthly blessings, they look forward to a time when all will be made right. Lazarus won’t always lie among the dogs at the rich man’s gate—he will receive his reward in Abraham’s bosom. Even now, the Lord remembers His poor yet precious children. “I am poor and needy; yet the Lord thinks of me,” said one of old, and it’s still true today. The godly poor have great expectations. They expect the Lord to provide everything necessary for life and godliness; they expect to see everything work together for their good; they expect to have closer fellowship with their Lord, who had no place to lay His head; they expect His second coming and to share in its glory. This expectation cannot die because it’s rooted in Christ Jesus, who lives forever, and because He lives, their hope will live too. The poor saint sings many songs that the rich sinner cannot understand. So, when we have little on earth, let’s think of the royal feast waiting for us in heaven.
