Justice Satisfied

The blood on the houses where you are staying will distinguish them; when I see the blood, I will pass over you. No plague will fall on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt. — Exod 12:13 BSB

My own sight of the precious blood is for my comfort, but it is the Lord’s sight of it that secures my safety. Even when I am unable to see it, the Lord looks at it and passes over me because of it. If I am not as at ease as I should be because my faith is weak, I am still safe because the Lord’s eye is not weak, and He sees the blood of the great Sacrifice with unwavering clarity. What a joy this is!

The Lord sees the deep inner meaning, the infinite fullness of all that is accomplished by the death of His dear Son. He sees it with the satisfaction of justice fulfilled and all His matchless attributes glorified. He beheld creation as it unfolded and said, “It is very good.” But what does He say of redemption in its completeness? What does He say of the obedience unto death of His well-beloved Son? No one can express His delight in Jesus, His satisfaction in the sweet aroma that Jesus offered when He gave Himself without blemish to God.

Now we can rest in calm security. We have God’s sacrifice and God’s Word to give us a sense of perfect safety. He will, He must, pass over us because He did not spare our glorious Substitute. Justice and love join hands to provide everlasting salvation for all who are covered by the blood.
