He Freely Gives

He who did not spare His own Son but gave Him up for us all, how will He not also, along with Him, freely give us all things? — Rom 8:32 BSB

This may not be a promise in form, but it is certainly a promise in essence. In fact, it is more than one promise; it is a cluster of promises. It is like a mass of rubies, emeralds, and diamonds set in gold. It is a question that can never be answered in a way that causes us anxiety. What can the Lord deny us after giving us Jesus? If we need all things in heaven and earth, He will grant them to us; for if there were any limit, He would have withheld His own Son.

What do I need today? I have only to ask for it. I may seek earnestly, but not as if I have to force an unwilling gift from the Lord’s hand; for He gives freely. Of His own, He gave us His only Son. Certainly, no one would have dared to propose such a gift to Him. No one would have ventured to ask for it—it would have been too audacious. He freely gave His Only-begotten Son, and, O my soul, can you not trust your heavenly Father to give you anything, to give you everything? Your poor prayer has no power over Omnipotence if power were needed; but His love, like a spring, rises of itself and overflows to meet all your needs.
