Continual Guidance

The LORD will always guide you; He will satisfy you in a sun-scorched land and strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail. — Isa 58:11 BSB

What troubles you? Have you lost your way? Are you entangled in a dark forest and unable to find your path? Stand still and see the salvation of God. He knows the way, and He will direct you in it if you cry out to Him.

Each day brings its own challenges. How sweet it is to know that the Lord’s guidance is constant! If we choose our own path or consult with our own understanding, we cast off the Lord’s guidance; but if we set aside our self-will, He will direct every step of our journey, every hour of the day, every day of the year, and every year of our life. If we are willing to be guided, we will be guided. If we commit our way to the Lord, He will direct our course so that we do not lose our way.

But take note of whom this promise is given. Read the previous verse: “If you pour yourself out for the hungry.” We must have compassion for others and give them not just the bare minimum, but what we ourselves would want to receive. If we show tender care for others in their time of need, the Lord will attend to our needs and be our continual Guide. Jesus is the Leader, not of misers or those who oppress the poor, but of the kind and compassionate. Such people are pilgrims who will never lose their way.
