From Anger to Love

He will again have compassion on us; He will vanquish our iniquities. You will cast out all our sins into the depths of the sea. — Mic 7:19 BSB

God never turns away from His love, but He quickly turns from His anger. His love for His chosen ones is rooted in His very nature; His anger is simply part of His role as a just God. He loves because He is love, and He frowns only when it’s necessary for our good. But He will return to the place where His heart truly rests—His love for us—and then He will have compassion on us and end our sorrows.

What a wonderful promise this is—"He will subdue our iniquities"! He will defeat them. They try to enslave us, but God will give us victory over them by His own mighty hand. Like the enemies in the land of Canaan, our sins will be defeated, put under His control, and eventually destroyed.

As for the guilt of our sins, how gloriously is that taken away! “All their sins”—yes, every single one; “you will cast”—only an almighty arm could accomplish such a feat; “into the depths of the sea”—just as Pharaoh and his army were drowned. Not into shallow waters where they could resurface, but into the “depths” of the sea, where they are gone forever. They sank like a stone to the bottom. Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
